    Overview

The Global Certified Accessible (GCA) program assists publishers and vendors in creating content accessible to all readers by adjusting workflows and ensuring compliance with accessibility standards. Publishers can get GCA certification to assist them in producing accessible titles. This will be of interest to librarians as books that are certified guarantee a level of accessibility which will be useful for searching books for patrons and procurement. Various publishers globally are listed.

The information on this page is summarized from the Certified Publishers: Benetech webpage.

    Quick Facts

    • The Global Certified Accessible (GCA) program helps publishers build content that is accessible to all readers from the start by adjusting their workflows.
    • Publishers must be GCA certified in order to create GCA certified titles and are responsible for creating accessibility metadata for titles.
    • Conversion vendors can add publisher-provided metadata but cannot create metadata themselves.
    • Publishers should provide conversion vendors with accessibility specifications for each title.
    • Once a file is complete, publishers should review it to ensure all specifications have been met.
